About Us

🌶️ ABOUT FLORIDA FISH PEPPER CO.

Florida Fish Pepper Co. is a nonprofit growers alliance and grassroots movement rooted in soil, story, and self-determination.

We are growers, chefs, homesteaders, makers, and movement builders dedicated to reviving the fish pepper — a rare, heirloom chili with deep roots in Haitian, African American, and Chesapeake Bay culinary history. Once nearly forgotten, this beautifully variegated pepper is now a symbol of cultural resilience, regenerative farming, and Black agricultural heritage.

Founded in Jacksonville, Florida, we believe growing food is a gateway to freedom — and that small farms, backyard growers, and aspiring agribusiness owners deserve a seat at the table.

🌱 What We Do:

  • Empower New Growers with seeds, education, and mentorship

  • Connect Members to markets, events, and one another

  • Buy Back Harvests to resell to spice makers, chefs, and retailers

  • Host Events like the Unity in Flavor: Fish Pepper Summit

  • Tell the Story through film, food, and flavor

 Why the Fish Pepper?

This pepper isn’t just spicy — it’s sacred. Used by Black chefs in the 1800s and grown in secret by enslaved and freed farmers, the fish pepper is a living archive. We’re not just growing a crop — we’re reviving a legacy and creating a future.

Who We Serve:

We are open to all, but we prioritize:

  • BIPOC growers looking to enter agribusiness

  • Homesteaders and gardeners seeking purpose and profit

  • Chefs, makers, and artisans hungry for heritage flavors

  • Community leaders who want to combat food deserts through farming
